LEGAL GOODS
LEGAL GOOD(S)
YOU ARE HERE. III
In 2017, after losing our venue in DTLA for the first time of two, Think Tank Gallery moved into a swap meet in MacArthur Park and exhibited the work of artists who had broken the law. Many artists had to smuggle their work out of local prisons, in collaboration with co-curator Phil America. The show was also co-curated by the late Greg Escalante, and a “Call For Convicts” parsed by Director Jacob Patterson.
In addition to art items from local jails, the show featured works by Shepard Fairey, Chaz Bojorquez, and other iconic graffiti and street artists. The location was haggled in exchange for a mural restoration above the entrance awning of the swap meet, where a performance artwork by Alex LeGolvan also took place on International Art Day (above), and an “entry fee” of $5 spent at any of the booths in the swap meet was encouraged of all visitors.
