DSWC - Vans Pitch

Drinkin' Smokin' & West Coastin' is Think Tank Gallery's love (or hate) letter to the biggest exporter of culture in the world: the City of Los Angeles. Featuring hundreds of art pieces by some of the biggest artists in the skate, street, and illustration genres, and a packed calendar of events from dozens of local and national producers that are shaping the Southland, DS&WC will be LA's party scene this Summer.

It's also a chance for Vans to jump in front of millions of LA-fetishizing-fanatics at one of the nation's Top 25 Most Instagrammable Arts Spaces. We know how to create a captivating and smoothly branded experience, and coincidentally have 10 years in the sneaker game. Our previous largescale installations have been shared by media to hundreds of millions of artists, musicians and fans, and it's time now to invite creators to team up with Vans to make art and programs about the city that defines us and has made this all possible.

We've been showing skate and street art for seven years in DTLA, and this is our biggest show ever. All of our favorites are on board, and they're inviting their friends. Good art – from grimy to CLASSYSHITNEEDAWORDHERE – is our calling card. It's what brings crowds from all over to spend a night or three downtown, and it's what packs the house. And the artists with whom we're blessed to work makes our crowd share us so much that we're next to the Guggenheim and LACMA in the most-shared arts spaces in the country. We make big installations and put our audience inside of them, then we give them an easy path to post. We have some clever installations lined up for DS&WC, and we're producing another mural for the fest, this time with arguably the most prolific street artist in the world right now:

Spanish artist Ash Santos is updating his famous sound art side stage. Made of pizza boxes, contact microphones, and guitar pedals, crowds control the music by racing RC cars, mid-show.

Each installation is novel; the entire show brings the crowd. Wall tags, reception areas, and other gallery staples will get targeted eyes from skater crowds (with some decent income).

Nanoleaf is doing up our main stage, dead center. Local producers will fill it up nightly, and we have a few places to put Vans right in front of every camera lens in the house.

We're trying to nail the feeling of LA in the 90s. Stacked tube TVs playing 90s newsreel –Shaq & Kobe, the OJ chase, etc– fills the lounge, glowing with LED and smoke machine backdrop.

Our photobooths are always immersive. Near the DMV line is a "no smiling allowed," share-to-social photobooth that puts you and your friends on a 1992 CA Driver's License.
